Increasing Your Library Books' Visibility With Proper Display Methods

If you work in a library, the way books are displayed in the building will make an impact on whether patrons check them out to read at home. It is a great idea to place books in visible locations using a variety of display methods to attract interest of those browsing the premises. Here are some ways to showcase different books so people visiting the library will have a piqued interest at the contents being shown.

Add A Central Book Display

Placing larger display bookcases in a central area of the library to hold new releases is a wonderful way to have those in the library stop to take a look at what is trending in the current reading world. Three or four display units can be arranged to appear like a circular book shelf by positioning each unit so the shelf sections point outward. This will make it easy to see the titles being showcased. Make labels to put at the left of each shelf indicating the first few letters of the authors' last names so books can be found easily if someone knows of a certain author they wish to find. A light can be hung above the units to help make the area stand out to those visiting as well. Place a list of new top-selling books on the top of each shelf so browsers can do a quick scan of the titles and authors before trying to find the book inside the display.

Designate An Area For Seasonal Books

Consider setting aside one portion of the library to display books of the season. This usually works well on top of lower book shelves so those passing by can take a look at a few books about upcoming holidays, outdoor activities, or home projects people have interest in during the current time of year. Look through your library's card catalog for books on subjects people may have interest in and pull them from the normal library shelves to display. Adding display boxes to the tops of existing book shelves will lift the books into view so the titles are seen as people walk past, perhaps enticing someone to take a closer look.

Make A Selling Section For Older Titles

As libraries get new reading material, older books are often taken out of circulation. Instead of waiting to accumulate a large number of books so you can host a library book sale, keep these titles within view of patrons to make quick sales throughout the year. Display cases can be placed along a wall for easy browsing. Add some lighting to the cases so the books can be seen from afar, possibly getting people to stop by to take a gander at what is being offered before they move on to the books to borrow. Display boxes can be placed on top of a bookshelf if there is not ample room for full cases. Indicate the price of the books inside of each box by writing it the front portion. Patrons can then pay for these treasures at the check out counter.
